Ramt af byen – City struck
Vi havde besøg fra Irland. Denis venner tilbage fra
deres fælles ungdom i Dublin (Deirdre og Denis), besøgte os nogle dage. Og der
var ønsker: arkitektur og design! Hvilket jo automatisk medførte at vores
uendelige tilbud.
PS!
We had visits from Ireland.
Denis friends back from their common youth in Dublin (Deirdre and Denis),
visited us for a few days. And there were wishes: architecture and design!
Which automatically resulted in our daily routines at Vesterbro being broken,
and for three days we were, in spite of rain, sleet and cold, on the go in
Copenhagen and saw a varied range of Copenhagen's endless possibilities. On Wednesday we visited the Design Museum in Bredgade, where Deirdre and I fell in love with Erik Mortensen's incredible creations - while our two Denis’ disappeared in the departments for Børge Mogensen and Arne Jacobsen. After a long walking tour through the city, where the axis with Marmorkirken, Amalienborg and the Opera house was admired, we walked over the "Kissing Bridge" with a short diversion into DAC (Danish Architectural Centre), where I saw the fascinating title of their latest exhibition: "Ramt af byen - City struck". On to Spicy Kitchen in Torvegade, where Zeba once again found good seating, everyday food from the Middle Eastern fusion kitchen and, not least, a good everyday atmosphere.
Thursday was another long and inspiring day. Taking the harbour ferry, we sailed the whole route from Sydhavnen to Refshaleøen (Refshale Island). That boat trip is almost nothing but culture and architecture along the entire harbour, and it can be taken at all times of the year. On Refshaleøen, we were fortunate, that Jane was "at home" and could tell us about her latest plans for the "Transitional Shelters", she has developed. We continued with the metro to the figure of 8 housing, where we had lunch. Afterwards we walked from the figure of 8 to the Royal Arena and the huge amount of construction in this area is, to say the least, architecturally completely different to that of Janes shelters on the Refshaleøen. In the evening we ended up in the Torvehallerne (Food Market Halls), which also aroused enthusiasm and where I and a 5-year-old ruthlessly negotiated an agreement on how to distribute the last five fish pies at HAV between us.
Friday we had all reached saturation point. Deirdre and Denis were to fly home early in the evening, so it became a local day at Vesterbro. The Shooting Range Park, which suddenly appears behind the high wall, is always a hit, and all the little shops on Istedgade, which I regularly pass, but rarely enter or notice the name of, were inspected, including Funky Junky. Denis spent a long time explaining, where he had seen it. Without luck, as we did not recall it, before we saw it lying diagonally across the road from our own street! Lunch was eaten in Absalon. But the day's hit was, that Ulf was sitting outside Monni's kiosk and Denis could finally give him the bottle of Jameson whiskey, he had promised him. Denis and Deirdre brought the bottle all the way from Dublin...
We managed to impress Deirdre and Denis with all the possibilities our city offers, which makes us both happy and proud - and the title of the DAC exhibition: "Ramt af byen - City struck" applied to us all four - how can you be otherwise, when you travel around Copenhagen - one of the most livable cities in the world!
PS! Saturday was our 11th. wedding anniversary and we did some of the things, we hadn’t got round to - finally saw the DAC exhibition and we ate out at the Italian restaurant FAMO on Vesterbro - a birthday present from my family, which half a year later became our wedding anniversary present instead - but none the worse for that - so thank you for the present kids...
